This thread to update the work about the return of w3images gallery plugin for wordpress.
w3images will return much more customizable than before, perfect to fit your needs as no one else do.

E’ stata aggiunta nelle ultime versioni di wordpress la caratteristica molto utile di poter aggiornare il software del blog con un singolo click. Può accadere comunque, che dopo l’upgrade automatico venga visualizzata una pagina bianca e il server risponda con un errore e non visualizzi più le pagine del blog.
A cosa è dovuto questo problema? Perchè dopo l’aggiornamento di wordpress può avvenire questo errore?
l’upgrade automatico alla ultima versione di wordpress, non solo aggiorna i files di wordpress sostituendoli con i nuovi, ma quando l’aggiornamento dei files è terminato, lo script di aggiornamento segue applicando a tutti i files di wordpress il CHMOD 644 (permessi di sola lettura): se ci si trova ad essere hostati in un server che richiede invece che i files debbano essere tutti indistintamente settati con CHMOD 755 (ad esempio su aruba), sarà necessario tramite FTP eseguire, subito dopo che con l’upgrade avremo ricevuto la fatidica pagina bianca, un rispristino di tutti i permessi ai files con CHMOD 755 o comunque al valore necessario per il server su cui sono in hosting i nostri files di wordpress (755 è per aruba ad esempio).
Direi che tuttavia, nonostante questo problemino, l’opportunità di poter aggiornare con un click il blog wordpress all’ultima versione è fantastica, comoda, veloce. Applicare il chmod a tutti i files e cartelle è molto rapido del resto, se si rende necessario: basta selezionare tutti i files (con WS_FTP ad es.) e cliccando col destro scegliere proprietà: in prossimità di Valore numerico (riferito al CHMOD) inserire (se si è su aruba, ma spesso va bene anche per altri, altrimenti fare riferimento alle faq dell’host su cui ci troviamo) 755 e cliccare ok.
Tutto qui. Il problema della pagina bianca in risposta dopo l’aggiornamento di wordpress e l’errore del server in tutte le pagine del blog è dovuto al CHMOD 644 su tutti i files settato dallo stesso script dell’upgrade.

Se si usa wordpress > 2.5, andando in Amministrazione -> Settings -> Discussione è possibile cambiare l’avatar scegliendo fra le disponibili opzioni che però sfortunatamente puntano tutte ad una risorsa esterna che è Gravatar.com, eccetto l’opzione invisibile che punta ad una immagine sul nostro spazio web. Possiamo avere diverse ragioni per cambiare questo stato di cose in favore di un avatar che venga caricato nel nostro spazio e che non sia magari quello invisibile: la pagina innanzitutto si carica più lentamente se ricerca un input da una risorsa esterna, ed in cattive condizioni della rete questo peggiora la situazione, oppure semplicemente vogliamo avere un controllo maggiore su questa caratteristica di wordpress.
La funzione di wordpress che contiene le istruzioni per caricare le avatars è get_avatar() contenuta nel file pluggable.php della cartella wp-includes.
Si può comunuqe per esempio settare una avatar di default che ci piace senza nemmeno modificare una riga di codice nella funzione, settando appunto n admi come default per avatar la blank.gif, e quindi andremo a modificare direttamente l’immagine blank.gif in qualche cosa che ci piace: tale immagine è posizionata in wp-includes/images/blank.gif.

w3images gallery for wordpress 2.5.1 released

The new version of the w3images, gallery images for wordpress has been relased. It is available in the free downloads section.

To update the w3images plugin, you need to substitute/overwrite only files inside folder wp-content/plugins/w3images with the news files in the archive of latest w3images 1.0.2 version.
