Trouble with embedding.

Post by Kaidok5797 » Wed Mar 06, 2019 6:06 am

Hello, first off I want to thank you for your work on this plugin. You are the only one it seems to have cracked the issue of fully implementing a phpBB forum into WordPress.

I followed your instructions and got the phpBB and WordPress installations connected with each other via your plugin as indicated by no longer having the red text. However I'm going through the instructions in order to fully embed the forum into a page on my wordpress website. I followed all the instructions once detailed here: https://www.axew3.com/w3/cms-plugins-sc ... ommonHowto and then continued on here: https://www.axew3.com/w3/2018/12/phpbb- ... iframe-v3/

Everything seemed to go fine until I got to the following step: "Server Configuration -> Load settings -> Recompile stale style components set to YES and save. Load one time a phpBB full forum page."

As soon as I did this, my entire phpBB installation gave me a HTTP error 500. Because of this I had no way to go on and continue the step to turn OFF the recompile stale style components. Because I was stuck, I uninstalled phpBB and I'm now beginning again. What could I have possibly done wrong to cause this error?

Also 2nd question. I'm somewhat new to WordPress... so I don't completely understand how templates work or how to create them. I use a combo of Elementor and SiteOrigin to build my website. So the instructions you gave for the templates confused me. Part of this may be due to the language barrier, but I have been able to follow your instructions up to this point so I'm not sure.

Basically I just need help with the whole "embedding" process. I really appreciate your time in making this plugin and I also thank you in advance for any help you can give me! =)

Hello!
The process is very easy for advanced, and fix things is a joke, but it is true that this to be, it is needed that you know phpBB and WP how they works, and several more things. This the reason of long help explains, that by the way aren't still complete, and may are in bad eng.
But can be executed by anyone with easy.
I will add some of these points to avoid further problems to people, in the help install steps.

Server error 500 mean many things, you should look server errors log file to check what was going wrong. By the way this is a strange behavior, may i assume due to the below (follow read).

Straight to the point, the (secure) procedure resumed:
on plugin page, setup the name for the wp page that will embed phpBB iframed.
so if you call it forum, into your active wp template folder you'll have file:
page-forum.php
itf it isn't after you done the step on plugin page, read inline helps on plugin option, and copy/paste manually it into your template folder.
You need to create same BLANK page in WP, named the same, without adding on it nothing as body, just title and save.
NOTE: the permalink of this page, need to result THE SAME, so change it to be forum (if you used forum)
This is normally setup in this way if chosen Post name as permalink structure into
WP admin -> Settings -> permalinks
This is very important. Change manually the permalink to be the same as you created the name of the WP page.

BEFORE to apply the overall_header.html
js code, test things, so you'll be not forced/redirected to iframe, if you access phpBB as direct URL,
leave recompile setting ON until you not finished, so you can change it as you like any moment.

Error 500 is strange, you may was forced/redirected to wp, and the setting of the page was not as above?

Let know

P.S online steps help about this, has been updated.

Thank you so so much for this! After reading this I was able to get it to work just fine. Unfortunately, phpBB I've discovered isn't going to work for my client. Now I am trying to move on to use WPforo and am having residual issues from your plugin. I've followed the instructions to remove, and then complete deleted your plugin. I've also completely removed the installation of phpBB from my server, deleted all cookies, and the forum page I made in wordpress. I installed WPforo which creates its own forum page called "forum". When I load this page, I STILL get the blue loading bar from your plugin, then instead of displaying wpforo forums, it just displays my websites header twice. I know this is a result from your plugin because of the blue loading bar that pops up when loading this page. I tried a database cleaner and it did not help. What am I missing in removing this completely so that I can use a completely different forum software?

Hi! After plugin removed, the unique thing that can cause this could be: some sort of cache?
